About The Attic

The Attic is a family-owned, group-focused lodge built on Sandusky roots, community pride, and a dream that’s been decades in the making.

Located above the longtime local business S & H Blinds & Floors, The Attic was originally constructed as a home where the Opfer family lived, worked, and raised their children. Ed and Julie Opfer built the space more than 30 years ago so they could stay close to their business and close to their kids — creating a home filled with everyday moments that became part of the family’s story.

As the family grew and eventually moved into a new home down the street, the upstairs space remained special. Years later, the Opfer family came together to transform it into something new: a warm, eclectic, lodge-style retreat designed specifically for large groups, sports teams, family gatherings, and milestone celebrations.

After a full renovation — with every family member involved — The Attic opened as a 4,400-square-foot group stay featuring six bedrooms, three bathrooms, a chef-ready kitchen, multiple living spaces, a 500 sq ft game room, a multi-tiered deck, and a year-round hot tub. The walls are lined with iconic Sandusky history, honoring the city the family has always called home.

The Attic can host up to 28 guests, making it one of the region’s most unique and spacious lodging options for tournaments, vacations, reunions, and events. Its debut was celebrated by more than 175 community members during a grand opening — a moment highlighted in a feature story by the Sandusky Register.
